Group Therapy

Group Therapy

Is OCD, anxiety, or a related condition taking over your life? Are you avoiding situations to reduce your anxiety? Does it feel like you can’t control your thoughts and emotions no matter how hard you try?

Do you wish you had more of a sense of community in your life, instead of feeling alone?

Are you looking for a more affordable treatment option than individual therapy?

If you answered yes to any of the questions above, one of the treatment groups at Rise might be a good fit for you.

Rise is currently offering the following virtual treatment groups for adults:

  • Safety Aid Reduction Treatment (START) – a ten-week virtual group treatment for adults with anxiety, OCD, PTSD, and depression
  • Introduction to Anxiety Treatment – a four-week virtual group for adults with OCD/anxiety-related symptoms

Both groups are conducted via a HIPAA compliant version of Zoom video. Due to legal requirements, participants must be located in Louisiana during all virtual sessions. Additionally, because the group is entirely virtual it is recommended that participants have a quality internet connection and access to privacy during sessions.

Safety Aid Reduction Treatment (START) for Anxiety, OCD, PTSD, and/or Depression

What: Rise is excited to share that Dr. Amanda M. Raines, PhD, will begin implementing a group-based Safety Aid Reduction Treatment (START) this fall. Dr. Raines is an expert in evidence-based treatment for anxiety-related disorders. Her years of work and research led to her participation in the development of this group-based treatment protocol that has been shown to effectively reduce anxiety, depression, and safety aid usage (Schmidt et al., 2012; Riccardi, Korte, and Schmidt, 2017; Raines et al., under review). The group-based START program will be delivered virtually, once per week over the course of 10 weeks, with each session lasting 90 minutes. This program will provide education about anxiety and the fear response, as well as strategies for reducing reliance on the safety behaviors that perpetuate the cycle of anxiety. Participants will receive instruction on the gradual reduction of the behaviors that keep them stuck.

When: Group sessions will begin in August on Wednesdays from 6 to 7:30 pm for ten weeks.

Who: To determine if you are a good fit for this program schedule a brief phone consultation, email, or call 504-977-2229.

Cost: $50/session. Payment for the first five sessions (a total of $250) is required to begin participation. Payment for the final five sessions will be collected prior to the fifth session.

Introduction to Anxiety Treatment for OCD/Anxiety-Related Symptoms

What: The Rise Introduction to Anxiety Treatment Group is a four-session virtual program designed by Drs. Melissa Dufrene and Kristin Fitch with the intention of providing effective treatment for anxiety and fostering a sense of community. Anxiety can be highly isolating, but you are not alone.

The core components of this program are considered to be the most foundational components of anxiety recovery. Our program provides education and strategies for understanding and modifying the cycle of symptoms by responding differently to distressing thoughts and emotions. You will be taught how to unhook from your mind and become a more active participant in your life. Each week focuses on a different treatment component and includes materials for independent work between sessions. All aspects of treatment are provided by a licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Melissa Dufrene or Dr. Kristin Fitch.

When: One hour per week over the course of four weeks

Who: To determine if you are a good fit for this program schedule a brief phone consultation, email, or call 504-977-2229.

Cost: $40/session. Payment for all 4 sessions (a total of $160) is required prior to the first session unless other arrangements are agreed upon.

Additional Information: We are confident that you will find the information valuable and the related activities meaningful. Please keep in mind that to get the most out of this program it is essential that you dedicate time throughout your week to complete assignments and review materials. This commitment will help you achieve the following goals:

  • Understand the cycle of anxiety and how it is maintained
  • Identify individual triggers
  • Developing tools to help you unhook from your distressing thoughts and emotions
  • Formulate and achieve goals that contribute to a fulfilling life

So if any of these sound like you…

  • You wish you could trust someone with your secret struggle
  • You want to stop feeling so alone in what you’re going through
  • You’re interested in therapy, but want to try something lower pressure than individual therapy
  • You wish you felt more understood by others

…Then one of our group treatment programs could be right for you.
