Telehealth

Telehealth

  • Have you been having a hard time finding a psychologist that specializes in OCD, anxiety, or related disorders in your part of Louisiana?
  • Do you work or live close to Rise Center for OCD and Anxiety, but can’t make it for in-person appointments consistently due to scheduling conflicts or transportation issues?
  • Would you like the option to have occasional telehealth sessions to supplement in-person sessions, especially when working on symptoms that are specific to your home environment?

Telehealth is a fairly recent innovation that allows the facilitation of health-related services to patients via live video conferencing. Thanks to modern technology, just about everyone has a smart phone, tablet, or computer capable of video chat. Telehealth appointments can be very beneficial if getting to a traditional in-person appointment is a hassle for you. If you lack the time or resources to use public transportation, are physically disabled, or live in a remote area, telehealth appointments can help by removing the need to leave your home to attend an appointment.

In recent years, research has demonstrated that telepsychology can be just as effective as in-person sessions. Telehealth provides the opportunity to bring your therapist into your own home or to the locations where OCD, anxiety disorders, or OC spectrum disorders are triggered the most. Many patients have symptoms that are highly environmentally specific and not be easily replicated in the office. In those cases, therapist-assisted exposures in the settings where patients usually experience anxiety triggers can be very helpful. Sometimes when doing exposures in-person, having the therapist around can make facing the fear too easy, so telehealth can also be of help in providing distance in those scenarios.

At Rise Center for OCD and Anxiety, we use Zoom Video and Telehealth by SimplePractice, which are both secure, HIPAA-compliant methods of communication.

So if this sounds like you:

  • You don’t have an OCD or anxiety specialist nearby
  • You lack the time or resources to get to an in-person therapy appointment
  • You want the ease and convenience of a video conference appointment
  • You live in Louisiana

… then Telehealth services may be just what you need.
